Measure First - Move Once

A Simple Moving Tip that can save you a lot of Stress

Measuring furniture prior to moving is important

Whether you are moving house, buying furniture on Marketplace, or organising a single-item delivery, there is one simple step that can save time, stress, and frustration on moving day: measure first.

It sounds obvious, but many people fall in love with a lounge, fridge, wardrobe, dining table or cabinet before checking whether it will actually fit through the door. A great bargain can quickly become a headache if the item cannot get through the front entrance, hallway, stairwell or into the room where it needs to go.

At Borgas Removals, we help with everything from single-item deliveries to full-house moves across Adelaide and Regional South Australia. One of the most helpful things customers can do before moving day is take a few key measurements.

  1. Start by measuring the item itself. Check the height, width and depth, and remember to include any legs, handles, shelves or awkward angles. If the item can be dismantled, it is worth checking how much smaller it becomes once taken apart.
  2. Next, measure the access points at both locations. This includes doorways, hallways, staircases, lifts, verandahs, sheds, garages and tight corners. It is also important to consider the route from the truck to the property. Are there steps? Narrow gates? Low verandah roofs? Gravel driveways? These little details can make a big difference when moving large or heavy furniture.

For Marketplace purchases, measurements are especially important. If you are buying from Adelaide and having the item delivered to a regional town, ask the seller for accurate measurements before committing. Photos can be deceiving, and what looks like a standard lounge or cabinet online may be larger than expected.

Taking measurements also helps your removalist plan the job properly. It allows the team to prepare the appropriate equipment, properly protect the furniture, and determine the safest way to load, transport, and unload your items. Good planning helps protect your furniture, your home and the people doing the heavy lifting.

Borgas Removals travels weekly between Adelaide and Regional SA, helping with furniture transport, Marketplace delivery, country-to-city moves, city-to-country moves, and full-house removals. We regularly service areas including Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Whyalla, the Mid North, Riverland, Yorke Peninsula and other parts of South Australia where possible.

So before your next move, remember: measure first, move once.
